This week Sheila and I both worked on progressing our
project. This past weekend, we went to our coaches training for our program. We
learned many details about how to teach lessons, the main goal of the program,
details about the final race, and how to treat each individual girl. At the
training, we went through a practice lesson together as a group as if we were
in their shoes. We also talked about the core values of the program and we
received information on the buddy system for the final 5k in May. This week we
held a parent meeting in the lower school with some of our school sponsors,
such as, Mrs. White and Mrs. Spaeth. We were a little disappointed with the
numbers of parents that showed up, but we showed the parents a short video
about two women who went through the program as children and their experience
and how it has impacted their lives, still to this day. Our registration opened
this past Monday (1/16) and closes this coming Monday (1/23) if we reach the
numbers. If we do not reach 8 girls then the registration will stay open at a
first come system. If we get over 12 girls, then all the girls will go through
a lottery to see who is on the team. Sheila and I will start the online Girls
on the Run training, online first aid and CPR course this weekend. We are
looking forward to starting up the program in the middle of February.
I love this project, it is such a special event for young girls! I love how you all are going through all the different steps getting ready for it. Keep it up!
