Week Two

What specifically did you accomplish this week?
This week we held an informational meeting that included our FRA faculty sponsors, volunteer coaches, and other FRA members that are essential to starting the program at our school. During the meeting, we discussed potential coaching roles, future parent meetings, girls flexibility with other after school programs, presenting the program to the young girls after chapel, and our experience while shadowing Granbery Elementary School’s Girls on the Run chapter.
What specifically are you working on right now?
Right now we are working on filling out the coaches applications and making our coach training appointments. We are also getting prepared to go through a CPR and first aid training class to earn our certificate.
What specifically do you plan to do next?
Next, we are going to talk to Mrs.Georgie, our lower school nurse, about our chapter we are starting and we are going to have her do a hands on training with us for our CPR certificate. After we earn our CPR certificate, we are going to do an online first aid class.

Getting Started

What are your goals for this project?
Our goal for this Genius Hour project is to start a “Girls on the Run” program in the lower school at Franklin Road Academy. Girls on the Run “inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experienced-based curriculum which creatively integrates running”. Young girls participating in Girls on the Run learn different lessons every practice and do physical activities that helps them understand the lesson. At the end of their season, they will participate in a 5K in Nashville. Our goal is to start the season, this coming spring.
How will you measure your progress?
Our progress will be measured as complete once we get the chapter acceptance from the non-profit, reach the number of girls to participate, complete a season of the program and participate in the 5K. Our goal is for all of the girls participating in the program to completely understand each lesson before the final race.
